Kelly?...Having just won the work FPL mini cup for the third year in a row, they have retired the Golden Ruddock and awarded it to me. I'm going to nominate our worst 90s centre forward. Ideas?

David Kelly - always on his arse due to trying an overhead kick every game even when it wasn't on.
Had a decent enough career after leaving us though...

What i remember from the games that I saw at the time I thought Radford played better that season than Derek Hales... and yet he got 10 goals or whatever...

Think I read somewhere that if stats had been kept from that era the way they are today Radford would rate quite highly in the assists column. Hit bars, posts, nothing went for him at all by all accounts.

I swear none of those players were much more than 50% fit from about 86 onwards, Alvin was having cortisone injections for years iirc

The class players in that transitional early 90s period were Gale Martin Dicks and the increasingly injury prone Devonshire.
Brady came in but was well past his best and Stuart Slater just starting to emerge.
Mark Ward was some talent also, but hated Macari who at least done one great bit of business in bringing in Ludo.
Morley Bishop and Quinn came in when Ward went and all proved to be effective in there own way with Bishop also having that touch of class in the midfield.
Kevin Keen and then Mark Robson provided good width and crossing ability for Morley & Quinn who always gave 100 % in my opinion as did midfielder Peter Butler who would run through brick walls for the cause.
Frank Carr had electric pace but was never a footballer and a bit later on Matty Holmes was unlucky with injury.
Fun times really despite relegations and a lot of good characters in the team some of whom were journeymen and stop gaps but who for the most part got West Ham and were proud to put on the shirt.

My one endearing memory of Mike Small was being stood somewhat sheepishly on the North bank at Highbury when he scored from what looked like 25 yards.
We couldn't contain ourselves but neither could what seemed like hundreds of other west ham who unbeknown to us previously were stood around us..

Quinn was 30 when he signed for us and was still playing 15 years later for Shrewsbury Town.

quinn had a better goals per game average than antonio, but what I loved about those couple of seasons was the understanding between him & morley. they were a great partnership

I remember a few of the red tops imploring that Mike Small would be included in the next England squad... that would have been around November time...... not quite the same imploring come April/May !!

Cholo - yeah I liked Jimmy but the form slid away.
NS - yep great times, was my golden era going over there despite the form, quality of players (at times) and the odd relegation!

The hilarious thing about Mike Small is those 13 goals make him one of the most effective games to goals ratio and also for the transfer fee paid compared to some of the hogwash that we've had to endure over the years...decades even

Superb piece that and yeah that’s how I think we will all remember him. One game they did not mention was his brace he got at the City Ground in a 2-2 draw. I’d bough a shit car the day before… a rust ridden 950 Austin Metro for £150.00. Somehow squeezed 5 of us in there to go to the game, halfway up the motorway the bonnet latch snaps so we driving along with an open bonnet!! Managed to pull over and tie the fucking thing down. Got us there (usual trouble with the locals on the Bridge). Small looked the best striker in the world. Made it home and scrapped the car a week later!! Good old days…
